And now something for a Friday

There are a couple of people attempting to remake the awesome that is Robyn’s ‘Call Your Girlfriend’ video out on the interwebs. But this might be my favorite so far. Greg James is a radio presenter on BBC 1 and from his own profile: “he was eventually given a show out of pity, only later to find out that the transmitter was broken and his shows were never broadcast.” So many years and professional successes later, this clearly this led to him putting on some leggings and getting some mates to hold lights while he busts some moves.

Sydney (I’ll Come Running)

Brett Dennen is an San Francisco native who should become crazy famous with his blend of folksy rock. Even if he is a ginger. I’m guessing if this song hasn’t already been featured in a TV show, it will be soon and deservedly so. It’s that great combination of catchy upbeat tempo and wistful lyrics that will get completely stuck in your head. Enjoy!

Unconsolable

You know that moment in your life when you need John Hughes to cut in with an awesome breakup anthem backed by the marching band as you walk across the field and away from the person that dumped you? Of course you do. So does Ambassadors.

Midnight City

Well this is embarrassing. The reason Dowks and I rebonded (yes. I’m making that a word.) is due to a band that neither of us have bothered to mention here. In the midst of the holy terror that was writing my thesis, I listened to three albums in an obsessive cycle and one of them was Continue reading

Come Around

This one is from the flaming hipster vaults of Matty. Who we all  must sort of hate due to his current residency in Hawaii. But on a less envious note-this song is the New Zealand answer to Passion Pit or a really happy and not too cool for school MGMT. And on a Monday- we all need a really happy MGMT

Come Talk To Me

Bon Iver is undisputedly one of my favorite artists of all time. Up until now, I  avoided talking about him on the interwebs since, he is pretty much every persons favorite, but one of my greatest friends only recently discovered the awesome of Justin Vernon and accused me from failing to keep him hip. So Andre- here is a bonus track which is a Peter Gabriel cover that have been floating around. Don’t say I haven’t tried to keep you cool in the world of corporate monkeydom.

Sadness Is A Blessing

Oh how I adore Lykke Li. She is on my top ten list of people I would like to befriend and have over for dinner parties. Until her time frees up; I will have to content myself with enjoying not only her own album, but the fantastical remix done by Gold Panda of her song ‘Sadness is a Blessing’. This remix manages to make a sound that personifies both artists beautifully and remind me of how sometimes, sad songs are the best songs.

Maybe I’m Crazy

Monarchy is one of those groups I think of as a remixer more then a band with original content. They have quickly rectified this assumption however with their newest single ‘Maybe I’m Crazy’. Sounding  like Empire of the Sun and Passion Pit had a very cool little kid, this is quickly becoming one of my favorite tracks off their album.
