We Don’t Eat

I love this time of year. The multitude of holidays means friends visiting, my family together, and just a general feeling of well-being that seems to pervade the city. Andrew Clancy gets it. I might need to do a year of filming here as part of my New Years Resolution just to remember how blessed my life is.

Also this song is awesome on a cold day with a good book and a warm fire. Just saying.

Hands Are Clever

This post has taken three days to write. Why? Because I can’t pick my favorite song on this album to talk about. Courtesy of Tre, the much cooler Londoner and arbiter of taste for yours truly, this album is brilliant. It’s like all my neo-soul dubstepy dreams wrapped up in the package of a South East London cool. Seriously. Just found the album that I’m going to be listening to nonstop for the next couple months. Just to demonstrate how hard it is to pick which song is the most representative of this fantastical album, listen to the two tracks below and tell me which one if your favorite. ‘Hands Are Clever’ has nailed the soulful retro sounds, while ‘Too Close’ is for people needing a more James Blake post dub-step fix. Enjoy!

Graveyard Girl

Saturdays=Youth might be my favorite album of all time. I don’t say this lightly. There are a lot of amazing albums that have been in consideration over the years but whenever we return to the question of ‘What album would you take to the desert island which weirdly, has a killer music system and continuous power to run said system, but no way to get off of it?’ I can’t help but think of this one.

Anytime a new M83 album comes out Continue reading

Take Care

Seriously? Drake and Rihanna made my favorite pop song of last year with ‘What’s My Name?’  And then they decided to use Jamie XX and Gil Scott-Heron’s ‘Take Care of U’ to make a new track. Its pretty awesome. This album is going to be rather great.  That is all.

XX Part Deuxx

Clearly Jamie XX has heard me lament the fact that as much as I adore all his remixes and work at BBC1, I need more XX in my life. They announced this morning that they are working on a second album and you can follow their work here.

Until then- here is some of the great tracks that Jamie XX has been working on while getting the band back together.

Levels

I’m better known for rocking a baggy gray t-shirt and sneakers at a concert then wearing a LBD and heels at a club. That changes once in a blue moon when C$ and Duchess get involved and plan a weekend to Vegas. These enforcers of making me to look like an occasional girl are some of my favorite people in SF specifically Continue reading

Breathe Me

Do you have a song that pulls you back into a time and feeling within the first twenty seconds of playing? When I had just moved to DC, I spent an entire weekend not talking to a single person that ended with me watching the series finale of ‘Six Feet Under’. For those troglodytes who have failed Continue reading

SoGosh

We’ve been putting together an elaborate celebration for the friend who always asks us the burning questions like: ‘Which of your friends does this French Toast taste like?’. Which is pretty hard, since he has mastered the art of taking life by the reins and dominating his own personal bucket-lists while continuing to forgo things like ‘furniture’ or ‘shoes that aren’t grey New Balances’. So while material objects, Continue reading

Midnight City

In honor of Dowkstar’s birthday M83 finally put out a video for ‘Midnight City’. Its terrifying and awesome all at the same time. Kind of like the current status of Dowk’s hair.
