Polaris at Noon

I just got the Polaris at Noon EP and I’m really digging it. Akin to the style of James Blake, Polaris has perfected that electro meets pop feel, with a dark and moody attitude.

Leave Argentina

This is one of those legitimately feel good songs you are going to want to put on a mix-tape and rock out to repeatedly. Reminiscent of Two Door Cinema Club, Polarsets has that folksy foot-stomping feel that the UK is dominating with now. Enjoy!

Lasers

Editor’s Note: Weis has graciously agreed to drop some knowledge on us about Lupe Fiasco’s latest album. Here is his review.

I have to admit I was hesitant to listen to Lupe Fiasco’s Lasers when it first came out.  Between the tepid responses from the critics and the controversy over the release I was concerned Continue reading

Eyes Be Closed

I’m battling a serious case of jet-lag after a ten day adventure-filled trip to London and Prague that was capped off with an 8 hour wait in a holding pen at Heathrow. While I catch up on life, Continue reading

As Expected

While the cuz respectfully declined my request for a little guest post genius, he delivered to me, Heart It Races, by Dr. Dog.  Much like everything else that I experience in conjunction with the Mysorewala family, the song exhibits an unusually high degree of awesome.

The song is suuuuuper catchy.  The bass line has seemingly worked it’s way into my blood stream and I just start bouncing whenever I hear it.  Enter the almost banjo like guitar riffs, playful keyboard, with a few boom da da das, and I’m grinning from ear to ear.

Dr. Dog seems like the kind of band you really want to see in some tiny little venue (pls to come to Crocodile, guys).  If I had to guess, I’d bet they start rocking the set from song one, and then keep it going for as long as they can.  In fact, this song reminds me of the Family Guy episode when Stewie starts rocking out on the banjo and jubilantly declares, “I’ve got blisters on me fingers!”  Fun, incarnate in a song.

All [the] Green Lights

Me [Groggy eyed]: whoosie, whattie?

My rather annoyingly persistent iPhone alarm playing Marimba:  7:10

Me [taking a second to realize my bus will be here in 5 minutes]: ………daaaaang…….

Apparently ‘Marimba’ is not abrasive enough to wake me up on a consistent basis.  Gonna have to go with something like ‘Car Horn’ or ‘Trill’ from now on.   Continue reading

Something Good Can Work

I’m still adjusting to life post-Coachella, where my rainbow hair looks a bit out of place, and I am not discussing the merits of burratta in Italy with actresses while pool stewards bring us muddled lemons at regular intervals. Continue reading

Electroverload

Caught another amazeballs show last night.  Holy Ghost! and Cut Copy were shockingly good.  I must say I’d not heard of Holy Ghost! (outside of a remix they did) and went to the show purely for Cut Copy, but was very impressed with several facets of the young group from the Upper West Side.  They put out super tight, late 80s early 90s electropop beats – really the only area they were lacking was vocals.  Swap out the lead vocalist with pretty much anyone, and you’ve got yourself a pretty stellar band.  Really worth a scope out.  They’re better known for their remixes, but methinks they will be known for a lot more than that if they can get their vocals straightened out.

Then Cut Copy came on and absolutely killed it.  1.5 hours and two encores later, Seattle fans were still screaming for more.  Don’t have time to listen to both bands?  You’re in luck, I’ve got a solution for you right here…

Something I Can Dance To

The Knocks rule. While the awesomeness of Ben and James is well documented here at Oceans, there is now another reason to love them. Last night Dowks and I were supposed to attend the Foals, Freelance Whales, and Naked and Famous concert at Showbox. But, in typical ‘pack fashion, Continue reading
